Four of Paso Ligero's 2009 cria showed for their first time at the MAPACA Jubilee 2010 on April 23-25th, and again in York, PA, at PAOBA's Breeder's Showcase May 8-9th, and the results were great! We went home with seven ribbons, five of which were first-place awards, and a reserve color championship.
Paso Ligero's Outlaw showed in the Huacaya Juvenile Male Beige halter class and took the blue ribbon in a class of 12 animals. Judge Diana Timmerman commented on Outlaw's excellent fleece architecture, with his outstanding crimp and fineness. In fact, she liked him well enough to give Outlaw serious consideration in the champion class, looking hard between Outlaw and two other animals. Two other of Outlaw's siblings, owned by A.L. Paca's, also showed in the white male classes and also received top honors, and garnered utlaw's sire, Sheer Galaxy, the Get of Sire award at the Jubilee. At PAOBA, Outlaw received a third place in a class of 15 animals, placing under two older juvies who had considerable size on his as well as having been cria-shorn. Judge Peter Kennedy still commented on Outlaw's fineness, brightness and architecture being excellent for his age.
In the Suri Juvenile Male Dark Brown class (full fleece), Paso Ligero's Blackfoot also received the blue ribbon in a class of six at MAPACA. Judge Kristin Buhrman commented on Blackfoot's extreme density and consistency of lock and luster throughout, as well as his fineness. But at PAOBA, Blackfoot shined again, receiving not only the first place in his juvie class, but also receiving the reserve color champion for brown male suris, under Wild Rose Suri Ranch's Peruvian Typhoon, a yearling. Judge Peter Kennedy was wowed by Blackfoot's density, lock structure and consistency and luster.
Paso Ligero's Spice Girl showed in the dark brown juvenile female huacaya class, a very tough class at MAPACA, but at PAOBA in a class of eight, she got the blue ribbon, with Judge Barboza commenting on her excellent staple length for her age, as well as her significant fineness and brightness. Spice was at the middle of that class in age, so she did very well to get the blue.
Paso Ligero's Dixie Chick showed in the Suri Juvenile Female Multi halter class and placed third in a class of five at MAPACA. Kristin Buhrman again commented on Dixie's density, overall typiness and lock structure and uniformity when describing her placings. Dixie showed in a class of two at PAOBA and received the first place, with Judge Dave Barboza commenting on Dixie's density, lock structure and fineness being her outstanding traits above the other female who was three months older and more lusterous.
The same four 2009 cria will show again in a couple of fall shows this year yet to be selected, so watch the website's Upcoming Events for more information as fall approaches. Paso Ligero's 2009 "baby season" saw a total of seven cria arrive on the farm, cute as buttons each and every one. But they're not just cute. We worked hard to add excellence in the farm bloodlines through 2009's breedings, and it paid off well.
Paso Ligero's Outlaw, whose dam is a gorgeous, white daughter of multi-champion The Aga Khan, is sired by another a multi-champion, Sheer Galaxy, owned by A.L. Paca's. Outlaw's fleece seems to radiate bright, pearly white when you open it up, and the crimp and architecure just stuns you. To top that off, his conformation is excellent, and his personality can't be better. Like his dam, he's quiet, calm and friendly - a winning combination in our book.
Other bloodlines that we added with excellent cria to show for it include Uribe and Camion on the suri side, and 3/4 Accoyo, Derwydd Peruvian Pinach's Quan, and 3/8 Accoyo, 5/8 Alianza R.A. Buckskin, a Portland Kidd son on the huacaya side. More show results from these outstanding cria will be up on the site soon. So come back here to see them, or make an appointment to come see them in person at their home, the Paso Ligero Alpacas farm!
